Q.. How do I save my files?

A.  It is always best to save your files in the folder called my documents which you will find makes it a lot easier for you when looking for a document.  When you want to save something go to to the menu bar on top and select file. From there select the option "save as" which is where you can give you file a name and a location.  Again the location should be a folder in "my documents"  either a default folder such as my pictures or my music or a folder that you have created.

Q.  Why is my computer getting so slow?

A.  There are several reasons for this and it is usually most noticeable on older computers.  Often there are programs running in the background that you do not even see.  They usually are installed along with new software.  Another reason is that your old machine does not have enough "horespower" to run many of the newer programs.  This is especially true if you are trying to run several programs at once.  Sometimes your hard drive has become "fragmented" and needs to be "defragged".  This is an operation found in your start menu under accessories and system tools.

Q. Should I stick with Windows 98 or Windows ME?

A.  This becomes more difficult with each passing year and it is a good idea to upgrade if you can.  The latest and the greatest is, of course, Windows Vista which just came out in January 2007.  The problem you will have to face is trying to put some of these new programs on an old machine.  Again, the old computers will simply not have enough power.

Q.  So, should I upgrade my old machine by adding memory, a bigger hard drive, etc.?

A.  Usually, the answer is NO.  New computers are so inexpensive now that you are much farther ahead to invest your money there.  Please consult with your friendly computer repairman who can advise you about this.
